Another Railroad District star, this charming hotel and upscale restaurant on Fourth St is a sweet place for a special occasion. An extensive and well plotted wine list gives copious and well deserved props to Oregon labels, and comes complete with personal tasting notes for some of the vintages.
What to try here? The Deep Water Oysters w/ Meyer Lemon and the Goat Cheese & Vegetable Terrine are a good place to start. The Filet Mignon and Pepper Crusted Ahi (Peerless take on surf-n-turf ), and the Rack of Lamb are luscious if spendy favourites. The food here tends to be rich (as in really really), so perhaps it’s a good thing it’s expensive ;-)
Vegetarians do not despair: The Peerless, like so many other Ashland establishments, caters well to veggies and even vegans — the Mushroom Risotto Cakes with Vegetarian Demi-Glace is proof man need not chew cows to be happy, and the Cannelloni with Roasted Eggplant, Sauteed Fennel and Tomato Coulis would satisfy even the staunchest carnivore.
