Church of San Juan Bautista

The Church of San Juan is located at Calle Blasco Gimeno, 8. This location is on one side of the Plaza del Mercado Chico. The church was built during Romanesque times and reformed greatly in the 16th century. In 1504 Martin de Solorzano was hired to make the church bigger. He died in 1506 and Juan Campero and Pedro de Guelmes continued the work. The main chapel and the crossing have the Renaissance style, although the façade remains in the final Gothic style. The fame of this church is that it contains the baptismal font where Santa Teresa of Avila was baptized on April 4, 1515. This church was declared a National Monument in 1983.
