Most people find that having some sort of vehicle to get around Ushuaia is essential.
You can rent a car and get yourself around town fairly easily, though the roads are extremely rough and you might need some help now and then. Some visitors report that the gravely roads around Ushuaia are so rough that car wheels will easily get bent out of shape and you’ll need to ask a local to help you pound the tire back into shape. In addition, the rough roads can sometimes puncture a tire, so be prepared for that as well.
Another popular way to get around Ushuaia is via taxi. This will help prevent any trouble with the aforementioned rental cars, and also let you sit back and relax as you get from point A to Point B. Taxi drivers here are also quite knowledgeable about the area and can recommend tours, hotels, restaurants and the like.
If you want to stay in the center of town, be sure to just walk. There are some interesting buildings here, and parts of this area are for pedestrians only. From the town’s center you can see many interesting sites and get a beautiful view across the water.
