Morro Bay is a charming and historic fishing village is on scenic Highway 1 about 30 miles south of Hearst Castle and just 12 miles north of the city of San Luis Obispo . Located at the base of towering and scenic Morro Rock, it offers visitors a wide variety of activities: playing on the beach and ocean, golf, bay cruises, boutique shopping, kayaking, surfing, fishing, whale watching (in season), wine tasting, biking, bird-watching and more. The town has many excellent restaurants, most with a natural emphasis on the fresh seafood caught by the local fishing fleet (moored right on the Embarcadero), paired with the excellent SLO County wines, and with the locally produced fresh fruit & vegetables. The town hosts two Farmers Markets every week and many special events through the year. The Museum of Natural History has hands-on kid-friendly exhibits.
