Valley of the World Wine & Food Festival

Salinas Rotary’s annual Valley of the World Wine & Food Festival has become  a favorite event in Monterey County and beyond.  The  festival usually takes place in mid-January, and always showcases Monterey County wines (such as Chalone, Pessagno, Hahn/Smith & Hook, Morgan, Bernardus and many others) and local restaurants. The festival features wine pairings, an elegant reception, winemaker dinners and an exciting Grand Finale held at the National Steinbeck Center. The festival is a fundraiser, and in 2006 raised $85,000 for local charities and community projects.  So, not only can you enjoy fabulous wine and food, but you get the added benefit of knowing it's for a good cause too!  More information can be found at  www.wineandfoodfestival.org.

The 2007 celebration will be held January 13-27, and will kick off in style with the Chairman’s Invitational Reception at the exclusive Pasadera Country Club in Monterey . Enjoy sumptuous cuisine paired with award-winning wines from some of the county’s finest wineries.  There will be a large and rare bottle auction at the event, which is black tie optional.  Tickets are $150 each or $250 per couple.

Next, there will be a lively yet intimate evening pairing food and wine with Chef Todd Fisher of Hullaballoo and winemaker Steve Pessagno at A Taste of Monterey in Salinas . Tickets are $65 each and advance purchase is required.

From Tuesday to Thursday there will be Winemakers’ Dinners at four Salinas restaurants, each beginning at 6PM. Chapala Restaurant will feature Smith & Hook, and Gino’s Fine Italian Food will feature Morgan and Pajaro Street Grill will showcase Pessagno Winery, and Hullaballoo restaurant will feature wines from Bernardus. The cost for each dinner is $75 per person.

This exciting wintertime festival culminates with the Grand Finalé at the National Steinbeck Center museum at One Main Street, Salinas from 6-9PM. Enjoy wine tasting from over 30 Monterey County wineries, gourmet food sampling from more than 20 local restaurants, and a silent auction. Tickets are $80 each, or $150 for two.
