San Simeon is located on scenic Highway 1 just a few miles south of Ragged Point and the famous Big Sur coastline. Hearst Castle, the lavish estate of American newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, is a one of the most popular attractions in California, particularly throughout the summer months. Travelers should be sure to book their tickets early to visit this site during the peak summer season. Just a few miles to the south is the village of Cambria , with many special events, boutiques and wine-tasting. South of Cambria, along a very scenic drive, is the city of Morro Bay, home to the famed Morro Rock. The northern beaches of San Simeon offer a year-round resting spot for elephant seals. Often hundreds can be resting on the beaches, with the peak months of December to February for birthing and mating season. (Don’t get too close!) Human enjoy the beaches and pier in the San Simeon State Beach. If you’re lucky, you may see the zebras that live on the ranch surrounding Hearst Castle . San Simeon offers many inexpensive restaurants and motels, and one motel with high-end ocean-front rooms and premium dining.
