There are numerous free performances that take place throughout the summer in Sonoma.   Various local wineries and parks host productions of Shakespeare and dance, perfect for a picnic dinner with a chilled bottle of wine. The local papers will forecast any of these special events.
That being said, Sonoma also has several venues to watch professional dance, theatre and symphonies. The Wells Fargo Center for the Arts is one of California's largest performing arts centers, putting on more than 100 live shows annually of dance, theatre, jazz, rock & roll, country, classical, blues, world music, and comedy.

North Bay Theater Group is a mix of around 38 troupes, which provide more avante-garde, experimental performances to Sonoma county locals and visitors from the fall to spring.

 The Santa Rosa Symphony is nationally acclaimed and offers classical concerts from October through May. Also, it also hosts an ever popular "Green Music Festival" which is a relaxed open air concert series from July through August, one of the busies times of the year for Sonoma. Locals and tourists gather on blankets listening to the soothing classical music emanating from the stage.

On the northern coast of Sonoma Country, the Gualala Arts Center presents a programming featuring arts of all disciplines right by the beach. In western Sonoma Country, Sebastopol Center for the Arts presents various visual, performing and literary arts.
