Visitors flying into Denver will arrive at Denver International Airport (or DIA for short, airport code DEN) located about 20 miles to the east of the city center. Numerous domestic and international airlines provide service at this major airport, and many car rental agencies also do business here. Many area hotels provide free shuttle service to and from the airport. Taxi cabs are always readily available outside of the terminal on Level 5. A one-way cab fare between DIA and Downtown Denver is a fixed rate of $55.57 (as of June 2016). Ride-sharing companies such as Uber and Lyft service the airport as well. Other options, such as hired limousines and corporate shuttles are also available. Check DIA's Transportation page for all options.
RTD (Regional Transportation District), the Denver region's transit authority, offers a direct rail connection between the DIA terminal and Denver Union Station in downtown--RTD's "A" Line. Trains depart from the DIA Transit Center located at the south end of the terminal, Level 1, and travel time between DIA and Union Station is 37 minutes. One-way fare from DIA to downtown is $9. RTD also offers regular bus service (SkyRide) between DIA and several destinations throughout the region.
Amtrak trains and buses arrive and depart from Union Station in the heart of the city. Greyhound has a bus station just a few blocks away.
For those visitors who are driving, Denver is about an hour north of Colorado Springs on Interstate 25. The next nearest large cities, Albuquerque, Salt Lake City and Kansas City, are all over seven hours away by car, so relatively few visitors choose to drive to Denver.
