Wadsworth Atheneum at 600 Main Street in Downtown Hartford is the nation's oldest public art museum.

Old State House located at 800 Main Street in Downtown Hartford. The Old State House is a restored National Historic Landmark from 1796 which makes it one of the nation's oldest state houses.

Connecticut State Capital & Legislative Office Building at 210 Capital Avenue in Downtown Hartford. Tours are offered of the CT State Capital which is a national historic landmark which overlooks Bushnell Park and sits next to the Legislative Office Building. These two buildings are the serve as the main stage for goverment in the state.

Mark Twain House & Museum at 351 Farmington Avenue in the city's Asylum Hill neighborhood just west of downtown. The 19 room mansion where Mark Twain lived and worked from 1874-1891is now one of the city's most popular attractions.


Harriet Beecher Stowe House at 77 Forest Street (the home faces Farmington Avenue) in the city's Asylum Hill neighborhood just west of downtown. The home of well known author Harriet Beecher Stowe is located right next to the Mark Twain House. The Stowe family moved into their home in Hartford in 1873.

Butler McCook Homestead at 396 Main Street in Downtown Hartford. This is the city's oldest home which dates back to 1782. In addition the home also contains the city's oldest collection of arts, antiques and household items. The home is located along Main Street near such imporant places as the Wadsworth Atheneum, Superior Court, Hartford Public Library and the Linden Apartments.

Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts at 166 Capital Avenue in Downtown Hartford.  The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts is comprised of two theaters as well as a variety of meeting and event spaces.  Besides offering an assortment of productions, the Bushnell also offers "Behind the Scenes" tours of the mostly Art Deco performing arts center for free.  The tours provide a detailed history of the Bushnell and also allow visitors to explore areas that are usually not available to the public.  Tours include the green room, the electricians room and its many famous autographs, and the projection room which is five stories above the theaters.  With each tour visitors also experience the excitement of walking onto the stage of both of the theaters and get an up close view of the magnificent glass sculpture "Ode to Joy" designed by the renowned artist Dale Chihuly.   Call the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts to arrange a tour.

TheaterWorks at 233 Pearl Street in Downtown Hartford. TheaterWorks is a professional off broadway style theater in the heart of downtown.

Isham Terry House at 211 High Street. The Isham Terry House was built back in 1854 for a wholesale grocer named Ebenezer Roberts. The home is located at the edge of downtown just over I-84.

Connecticut Science Center (formerly the Connecticut Center for Science & Exploration) on Columbus Blvd in Downtown Hartford. Opening in 2008 the 144,000 square foot science center will add yet another attraction to Adriaens Landing along the banks of the CT River.
