Marathon a wonderful place to be

I lived in Marathon in the 1970's and find myself returning as often as I can. It is a place where I find true peace and relaxation. I would recommend beginning your day with a beautiful walk on the old 7 mile bridge. On your walk, especially the Rt. side as you go South) you are sure to see Sting Rays, Turtles, Marlin, Sharks,Dolphin and Snappers, not to mention the shear beauty of the prestine blue waters. Take a walk out onto the bridge at sunset and you won't be sorry! There are sidewalks which are bike friendly and a great way to see the Island. Sombero Beach is a beautiful , well kept Beach. Take a walk down to the North end where you might just find my friend Tony serving up a all Natural Fruit Smoothie or rent a Kyack and spend sometime with the Dolphins not too far off the beach. The waters are shallow and it is almost as good as snorkeling, as you can see Rays, Star Fish and a multitude of other Marine Life. Snorkel into Sisters Creek where you may find the Dolphins hanging out or some very interesting birds in the Mangrove's. There is a Dolphin Research Center and a Turtle Hospital you can visit. The Turtle Hospital charges a small fee to visit and get a tour of there Rescue Rehabilitate and Release Program. There is also a Bird Sanctuary I haven't visited but is suppose to be very interesting and shows the vegitatlion of the Keys as well as native birds. Deep Sea fishing is very popular in the Keys. IF you want to just have fun, catch a few fish and not spend alot of money check out the Marathon Lady at the North end of they Island. Interested in learning to Sail. there is a great school on the Bay side at Keys Fishery.

Places to eat ..there are so many. North end of Island The Island Restaraunt and Tiki bar ( Bay Side) Herbies, famous for Conch Fritters and they are the best !! Keys Fishery again on the Bay is a Marina & place to buy fresh fish as well as dine. It is a fun place to go, be prepared to be ask you favorite movie or TV show, as that is how you will be called to pick up your order. Don't forget the sailing school is behind the resteraunt . Keep a eye out for fish and Manatee in the waters there. On the Atlantic side is the Castaway , my favorite food there is Aligator and Hog Fish, plus their famous Honey Buns. Near the Castaways is Burdines which is also a Marina, they have live entertainment there, who knows you may just run into Jimmy Buffet!!! I like their Harponed Tuna...Porky's is another favorite spot on the Bay side they are know for there BQ food and fried Key Lime Pie. Try the fried Key Lime Pie it is wonderful!! Porky's has entertainment I believe nightly .The seafood there is great --it is great everywhere in the Florida Keys..

Places to stay well I have only stayed at the Blue Water Motel Chad and Tonya are nice people The Motel is reasonable, clean and close to everything. They offer efficiencies and have laundry facilities and pool Located on Bay you can rent boats and jet skiis.
