The PENSACOLA LIGHTHOUSE is still an active aid to navigation. Its flashing white beacon shines at 20-second intervals and is visible 27 miles out to sea. Pensacola is the oldest lighthouse on the Gulf Coast. It is also the tallest on the Gulf Coast – standing 151 feet tall on a 40 foot bluff on the north side of Pensacola Pass. The lighthouse is built of brick and rests on a 40-foot deep granite foundation. The walls are 10-feet thick at the base and 3-feet thick at the top. There are 177 wrought-iron steps which wrap around a center pole leading to the top of the tower. The lighthouse is currently open for public tours  7 days a week. Admission is $4.00 for children, seniors, and active duty military; $6.00 for adults. The lighthouse is also available for private tours. Please visit the lighthouse website for additional hours and special events such as: Blue Angels tours, Light of the Moon Ghost tours, and Paranormal tours sponsored by the Ghost Seekers of Texas.
