Tampa International Airport is one of the Worlds Finest Airports, and VERY user friendly. Most major airlines offer non-stop routes throughout the United States major cities. http://www.tampaairport.com/ .
This is a highly rated airport. It is also one of the very best airports to pick up people. They have a large free cell phone parking lot with two big screens that display the arrivals, free wi fi, clean restrooms and a vending machine. You can also park one hour for free in the short term parking so you can meet someone at the gate. There is also a post office just outside the airport which is very handy to run an errand. The post office is open on Sundays.
If you've got plenty of time and have grown to despise air travel, consider taking an Amtrak train to Tampa. The coach fare is cheap, but the "roomettes" (at extra cost, one price for 2 people) are nice, if a bit tiny, and INCLUDES all meals for both passengers (that's 12 meals on a round-trip from Tampa to D.C.). The roomettes have comfy seats, bunk beds, toilet, sink, and storage for a couple of carry-on bags. Hot showers are just down the hall. An even larger bedroom is available (with its own shower) at even higher cost.
Amtrak's "Silver" service leaves NYC at 11:02am daily, and arrives in Tampa the next day at 12:34pm. There are stops in Newark, Philly, Baltimore, D.C., Richmond, etc. Daily northbound service from Tampa leaves at 5:17pm. There is free, guarded parking at Tampa Union Station. The dining car is great fun, meals are actually tasty, and you often meet interesting new people. Liquor is NOT included, but you can BYOB to consume in your sleeping compartment. Sleeper passengers have free access to Acela/First Class lounges in several cities. This is a genteel way to travel, and very stress-free. www.amtrak.com
