Taxis and rental cars are both good options for getting around while in Hyannis, and each has their own advantages and disadvantages.

Cape Cod is a unique tourist destination in the fact that it is very easy to get around.  There are many bus routes available, and commuting by bicycle is not only possible but encouraged.  With this, cars are not requires as in many other tourist areas.  Hyannis is no different, and taxis are a great way to get around town.  Because things are fairly close to one another, the cost of taking a taxi is not extremely high.  They are more expensive than busses, but are also more comfortable and convenient.  Fares are set by the State Department, and are determined by meters.  Catching a cab on the street is generally not an option, so make sure to call ahead of time to arrange for a pick up.  Hotels, restaurants, and bars will be happy to call for a ride.

Although they are not required for getting around, many visitors to Hyannis choose to rent a car because they do provide the most freedom and flexibility.  Links to some of the rental companies in Hyannis can be seen at Trip Advisor’s Getting around page.
