Petoskey is in a rather remote area, on the northern tip of Michigan looking out onto Lake Michigan. It can make for a rather long drive for most people. The closet airport to Petoskey is the Pellston Regional Airport whose main service carrier is Northwest Airlines connecting from Detroit.

Upon arrival at the Pellston Airport, rental car service is available from the following companies:

To continue the journey from the airport to Petoskey you will travel south on US 31 right into the city.

Driving from Detroit will take just over 4 hours. Interstate 375 North followed by Interstate 75 will get you the majority of the way there and the route is well marked. For specific driving directions visit www.mapquest.com. Also, for more information on Michigan including maps and things to do along the way, visit the state's online tourist board.

If you are planning on driving a long distance over the summer, you will want to consider looking up the construction conditions. Major highway renovations take place during the warm months and can significantly slow traffic, check with the tourist board or Rand McNally to avoid the blocked routes.
