The Big Sky community is composed of three areas: the Mountain Village (home to Big Sky and Moonlight Basin resorts), the Meadow Village (golf course, post office, grocery stores and most residences) and The Canyon (US 191, the road between Bozeman and West Yellowstone which runs along the Gallatin River). The distance from the Canyon to Big Sky Resorts is 9 miles.
In the ski season, Big Sky is served by a free community shuttle. The shuttle stops at major businesses, and runs daily from around 8:00 am to around 10:00 pm (depending on the stop). Local taxi service is provided by Shuttle to Big Sky & Taxi.
In the summer, there is no community shuttle at this time, though there will probably be summer service starting in 2007. Most summer visitors elect to rent a car, to enable them the flexibility to explore all the activities the area has to offer.
