Jackson, New Hampshire is quite a safe and friendly place to visit. The state of New Hampshire is actually well below the national average for violent crime, and the town of Jackson has a fairly low crime rate. Even petty crime is low, but as with traveling anywhere a certain amount of caution should always be maintained, especially at night. Don’t flash large sums of money, and keep an eye on your possessions while on the go. Photocopies of travel documents and credit cards should be kept separate from the originals and key telephone numbers maintained to contact banks if credit cards are stolen or lost.
If you’re using a rental car make sure to lock the doors while visiting tourist attractions, restaurants, museums and while parked at your hotel or motel. The roads in New Hampshire are well-maintained but in the rural parts there are not a lot of street lights or lamp posts so you should be aware of this when driving late at night, especially as the area around White Mountain National Forest can mean winding and narrow roads in some parts. Be aware of sudden rural stop signs and watch for animals that can dart suddenly onto the road as well.
