Plattsburgh is a quiet town with a relatively low crime rate. You can feel comfortable here enjoying your trip – whether for business or pleasure – and not worrying about your personal safety.
Personal safety I particular is not a fear here, as there are rarely murders (on average, less than one very 5 years), very few robberies and even fewer rapes. In fact, the crime rate here is one of the lowest in the state and certainly low even for the whole of the United States.
If you need worry about any crime in Plattsburgh, it’s likely to be property crimes, like burglaries and thefts. The rate of both crimes rose significantly from 2003 to 2004, so you could be sure to take at least a few basic precautions while visiting Plattsburgh, such as not leaving your car doors unlocked, even if you also come from a sleepy town and are accustomed to doing this, and not carrying or showing large amounts of cash.
It’s unlikely these things will specifically place you at risk in Plattsburgh, but they are good common-sense rules to follow always.
