Rochester has its fair share of mega-malls with all the standard chain stores. If you like them, definitely go to Eastview Mall on the eastern edge of Monroe County near Victor, NY.  It’s recently been updated and refurbished, with all the trendy stores like Williams and Sonoma, Coldwater Creek, Lindt’s Chocolates, etc. While there, do check out the People’s Pottery though, it’s a fascinating store that carries artists’ works ranging from simple jewelry to gorgeous blown glass and many other types of work. Nothing is mass produced and the clerks can answer questions about the artists. Prices range from inexpensive ($10-20) on up.

If you’re looking for an area with individual interesting shops, you must go to the Park Ave. area in Rochester (just off East Ave). And one definite stop should be Parkleigh Pharmacy. No longer an actual pharmacy but a wonderful gift shop with fine chocolates, Mackenzie and Childs ceramics, and so much more! Then travel along Park Ave and look for all the small shops tucked into lovely historic homes, wonderful!  Parking can be problematic, but find a side street, park, then go for a nice walk.  There are some lovely sidewalk type cafes, Jines is a local institution and although a bit pricey they do serve good food.
