Charlotte is served by the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, located just a couple miles west of the city.  This airport is a main hub for U.S. Airways.  Several other national carriers, as well as Air Canada and Lufthansa, also provide service here.  Car rentals are available from eight national agencies.  Taxis are readily available outside of the terminal at a serviced taxi stand.  Many local hotels offer free shuttle service to and from the airport, which can be arranged at one of the airport’s Travel Information Centers.

Amtrak provides rail service from its North Tryon St. station, about a mile from the city center.  Greyhound provides bus service at its W. Trade St. station.

For those driving into town, Charlotte is about three hours from the Raleigh/Durham area, three and a half hours from Charleston and Myrtle beach, SC and four hours from Atlanta and Savannah, GA.  Richmond, VA is about a five hour drive away.  Visitors will be driving in on Interstate 85 or Interstate 77, both of which can become congested in and near the city during rush hours.
