Topsail Island's weather is generally mild, although it gets hot and extremely humid during the summer months, mostly July and August. Temperatures in the summer tend to be in the 70s and 80s.

The weather does get cold during winter and temperatures often are in the 40s. January and February are the coldest months. Sometimes the temperatures dip down into the 20s or teens and occasionally there is a rare snow event.

During the spring and fall, temperatures are generally mild and enjoyable.

There is an average of 219 sunny days in the area, as well as about 118 days with some sort of precipitation.

Many times when it is raining on the mainland or rainstorms are forecast, it will remain clear on the island due to the sea breezes keeping the storms further ashore. The average annual precipitation is about 54 inches.

Likewise, the ocean temperatures keep the island air temperatures about 5-degrees Fahrenheit warmer during the winter and 5-degrees cooler during the summer.

Although hurricane season lasts from June 1 to Nov. 30, the peak in the Topsail area is from September to mid October. Early and late season storms seldom occur. Although hurricanes and tropical storms can and do happen, there may only be a two or three each season and there is plenty of advance notice if one is expected to impact the area.
