Pubs - Just outside the Hotspur gate and up the hill a bit is the Tanner's Arms. Excellent beer and atmosphere, nice dog too. Further around in a side street (Howick Street) (best to ask) is the John Bull Inn. Great beer, like somebody's front room, Belgian bottled beers, 100+ malt whiskies! The Queen's Head is decent, but expensive. A gem is the Ship Inn at Low Newton, set in a square of fishermans' houses.

Places to eat Louis Steak House & Bistro just off the Market place is good. Steaks from very good butchers over the road. Owned by Mark Turnbull too. Other Good Restaurants in Alnwick are Caff'e Tirreno, Lilburns, The Queens Head Hotel, Market Tavern, Blackmores, The Alnwick Gardens, The Treehouse and The Sanctuary at Alnwick Castle.

The Alnwick Gardens are excellent - ever changing - well liked by all.
