The City of Cannon Beach is relatively small (population just over 1600) with a realxed, low key atmosphere. With this being said, most of the events and festivals held in the area reflect the same laid-back feeling.
The main exception to the laid-back mood of the local events is held seven miles away from Cannon Beach in the town of Seaside. The event is called the Muscle Beach Cruz , and is a showcase for the area’s most glamorous muscle cars. The event is held in early June, and the cars on display are limited to those built in the USA from 1960 to 1978. The whole family is welcome and fun for all ages is to be had.

A great event for the kids is called the Spring Break Olympics . This is a free event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, and all kids from the ages of 4 – 13 are urged to participate. Events include water balloon fights, a pie eating contest and an egg crawl. [**Note: This event was not held in 2010.]
Usually held the 1st or 2nd weekend of June, Cannon Beach hosts an annual Sandcastle Festival, which draws thousands of spectators. This is the only weekend where driving on the beach is allowed, and free parking close to the festival site is available. The community organizes this event and food, t-shirts etc. are available on the beach. Contestants begin in the wee hours to create the masters division entries. Spectators are welcome to watch all morning as the sculpting takes shape. Judging of the sculptures, some by international level competitors, is around 1 pm (dependent on tides). This festival also includes amateur categories, so it is possible to get a group together and enter even if you are a novice. A childrens division is also offered. Contact the Chamber of Commerce for entry information.
On the 4th of July, the City of Cannon Beach hosts the annual Independence Day parade, which begins about noon. Other festivities include concerts and bands in the city park and sometimes special events around dusk. Fireworks are not allowed on the beach in Cannon Beach.
In September, local history is the focus of the annual Cannon Beach Cottage Tour. Featuring as many as 60 authentic beach cotttages, some dating back to the 1920's, the day also includes a luncheon, lecture and post-tour reception at the History Center.
The dogs are the stars of the October Annual Dog Show on the Beach, a celebration of our faithful pets. This event is sponsored by the Surfsand Resort and benefits the local Clatsop County Animal Shelter. A popular family tradition, every year this event has grown bigger and more fun. It’s more of a dog festival with dogs of every shape, size, mix plus many that are in a category all their own!
The first weekend of November is the annual Stormy Weather Arts Festival - a Friday through Sunday event featuring a "Quick Draw" art auction, live music, and featured artists for signings in the many galleries throughout town. Weather is unpredictable but the fun is always a sure thing.
