The Portland Art Museum is the oldest art museum in the Pacific Northwest.
It was founded in 1892 and now has a collection of over 40,000 works of art. The Portland Art Museum is housed in what was once a Masonic Temple. In 2004, renovations began and the museum was enlarged with a new Center for Modern and Contemporary Art as well as ballrooms and the NW Film Center.
The collections consist of modern and contemporary art, European paintings, sculptures, American art, Asian art, African art and prints and photography. The collection begins with European Impressionism and continues through to current art. The permanent collection is constantly changing. Some pieces go out on loan and pieces from other museums are loaned to the Portland Art Museum. There is always something new to see whenever you visit.
The Museum is closed Mondays. Open 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday; and open 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Thursday and Friday.
