The city of Lancaster has a thriving arts scene that offers something for everyone.  First and foremost, if you enjoy classical music, theater or opera, you need to go to the Fulton Opera House. The opera house was built in 1852 and features many outstanding performances every year.

Just a few steps away from the Fulton is the Ware Center, a beautiful new performing and visual arts center that brings in first rate acts in various genres: popular and classical music, "world music," poetry readings and lectures, dance companies, acclaimed independent films, and other great performances from all over the world. It has a 385 seat auditorium that boasts perfect acoustics and perfect sight lines, a cafe that overlooks Lancaster, gallery space, and various meeting rooms. The center is part of Millersville University.  Their website and schedule may be found at  The Ware Center.

The alternative and modern rock scene is found at the Chameleon Club where you can see regional and national acts. The club also has '80s and current dance nights and comedy nights.

Just east of town is the American Music Theater, where you can see major nationally-known acts as well as Broadway-style musical theater. As of this writing, upcoming acts include Earth, Wind & Fire, Jewel, Dana Carvey, Bobby Vinton, Little Big Town, and a Doo-Wop Cavalcade with well-known singing groups who were popular in the '50s and '60s.  American Music Theater

The Leonard and Mildred Rothman Gallery is a fine place to visit and see folk art and American decorative art. Another option is the Lancaster Museum of Art, which houses many unique exhibitions of visual arts of both local and international artists. There are a number of other museums and historical societies as well located throughout Lancaster. Some are strictly historical, but some feature on-site performances and have interactive employees who share their knowledge with the visitors. These can be good learning tools for children and adults alike.

Finally, check the entertainment listings in advance of your trip to Lancaster for fairs and festivals in the area that are fun for the whole family.
