Located on the southern side of South Carolina, due east of Charleston, the Isle of Palms is one of the state’s often visited tourist destinations.  The island is thought to be more than 25,000 years old.  Its first inhabitants were the Seewee Indians, and legend claims that pirated once lived here and buried treasure in certain areas.

The Isle of the Palms is on of South Carolinas barrier islands, and is accessible only by car.  There is no airport on the island.

Situated around 20 minutes away from Charleston, most visitors choose to fly into this major city’s airport and then drive to the island.  The Charleston International Airport has many regularly scheduled flights arriving daily from locations around the world.  There are many car rental agencies located in or around the airport.  For more information, check out this Rental Agency List .

The best time to visit is during the spring and summer months, during which time the temperatures are perfect for swimming and hanging out on the beaches.  The winter months can get rather cold, but are not freezing.

A good way to get to know an unfamiliar area better is by studying its geography.  Get started by looking at a Map of the Eastern US , a Map of South Carolina, and a Map of the Isle of Palms .
