There are plenty of local eateries to check out while in Cookeville, Tennessee, whether it be for a short visit or an extended stay.  The local eateries usually give you the best bang for you buck while providing a sampling of what the area is all about.  In Cookeville that is no different.

If you're craving Barbecue then you should definitely try Bobby Q's at 1070 North Washington Ave (931-526-1024).  If you like your slaw spicy then try the pool room slaw.  Be sure to have some milk or bread on hand to put out the flame.  Call ahead to be sure they are open and have room to seat you.  They can get pretty busy at peak times, but it is definitely worth it.

If you are more into the traditional burger and fries then try Maddie's Place at 569 West Broad Street (931-526-1611).  They serve anything from hand patted cheeseburgers to catfish platters to daily meat and vegetable specials.  The service is always friendly and you really get that hometown feeling from their location and their food.  This stop is definitely a must.
