Slave Haven is the former home of the Burkle family. In 1978, the family revealed that the home had been a stop on the underground railroad in Memphis. This museum includes information regarding details on slave trade, runaway slaves and message systems and travel patterns for those brave enough to endure the underground railroad.

Each tour guide will likely give a different tour, and offers stories about slaves who tried to escape. The tour concludes in the cellar of the home, where slaves would stay for a night or two until the ships left Memphis to go up the Mississippi River.
