Whilst sun, sand and sangria are the essential ingredients of a Spanish holiday for many, it need not be your only taste of Spain during your stay in Salou. If you have tired of the beach and souvenir shops there is plenty you can do in the area itself and the surrounding area to entertain yourself during the rest of your holiday.
Bars and Resturants
Welcome to Koko Chill-Out in Salou, a hidden gem, lounge- bar located on the cliffs, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the sunset with magnificent view of the sea.At Koko Chill-Out you will enjoy excellent cocktails, tasty tapas, paella, sandwiches and meals,all while enjoying the music of DJ's.
Family Parks and other Activity's
Once owned by Universal, PortAventura theme park, home to some of Europe's scariest roller-coasters, is just 10 minutes away from Salou. For those on a tight budget, you can save roughly half of the normal entry price by visiting after 7pm(in the height of the summer). In the summer months when the park opens until 12pm a grand multi-media show called FiestAventura, every night in which fireworks, fountains and parade-esque floats feature.
PortAventura Aquatic water park is easily accessible via bus or land train. The parks offer thrills, spills and a great way to cool down whilst still enjoying the beautiful Spanish sun. Another water park is located in La Pineda called Aquopolis, which is also easily accessible via bus and land train.
The attraction includes go-karting, a bungee rocket and an arcade. There are offers for large groups and includes a free bus.
Lumine Golf Club
Lumine Golf Club (formerly PortAventura Golf) includes three major golf courses, two of them designed by Greg Norman (North and Central) and the other by green project (South). The facilities consist of two clubhouses, beach club, Lumine restaurant, pro shop, rental services and a golf school. Lumine is slowly becoming a community with future residences and five star hotels planned for the surrounding area.
Is located on the street Barbastro No.8 situated behind the City Park. The attraction includes zip lines, a climbing wall and paintball. This is an ideal location that mixes nature and sports with central location surrounding hotels/apartments. There is a workforce on hand to help guide you through the activities you desire to do and will make sure you're safe and secure.
Another option is to be the skipper, and hire a pedalo or canoe from a beach vendor for around 10E. Other watersports include jet ski-ing, parasailing and windsurfing
A four wheel drive adventure off the beaten track and into the wine regions and hidden villages. This excursion, which is available to book through your tour operator or via independent tour operators around the resort, runs 7 days a week.
It's a half day trip either morning or afternoon with different routes, great scenery up in the mountains with really special guides who make you feel welcome and become friends who make make you want to visit again.
Glass bottomed boat and catamaran tours
A variety of seafari adventures are available from independent companies with kiosks in the harbours of Salou and Cambrills. It is also possible to book these via your tour operator and independent holiday reps situated throughout the resort. The tour prices will vary depending on the package. Some tours offer the option of an all inclusive on-board bar and BBQ lunch, giving you the option to make a real day of it.
Whilst you might not consider yourself to be much of a sailor, these boat trips are a must for anyone who wants to return home with long lasting tan. One day at sea is equivalent to spending 3 days sunbathing round the pool or on the beach, making the sea tours a good shortcut to s super suntan.
House of Illusion
The House of Illusion in Salou, Spain, is a superb night out for the family(early show) or anyone interested in a brilliant alternative night out. They have a full range of acts including close up magicians, comedy magicians, mind readers, hypnosis acts. All drinks are included in the price of the ticket. Two shows are on each night and last roughly one hour and a half with an interval. The early show includes dinner while the late show just includes drinks.
Botanic gardens (Park Sama)
Experience Gaudi's botanical gardens, situated between Cambrils and Montbrio del Camp. Among the attractions on offer is a 100 year old Brazillian Wichichinttun tree, as well as many other indigenous and exotic plants. The park is serviced by the Plana bus company on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with pick ups in La Pineda, Salou and Cambrils. A return ticket cost 9.90E and includes cost of admission to the park. The fishing town of Cambrils is a haven for seafood fans. Enjoy a stroll along the board walk, admire the luxury yachts and fishing boats in the harbour or shop to your heart's content in the many boutique and souvenir shops. Plana buses service the town every 30 mins, or alternatively a gentle stroll to Salou along the beach front path (approx 7km) will take around an hour and a half .
Famed for its rich Roman history, Tarragona is a 20 minute bus journey from Salou. Walk the Ramblas down to the Mediterranean viewing platform before turning left into the old town. Here you can marvel at the remains of the Roman amphitheatre and Gothic cathedral which nestle amongst classic Spanish architecture. The town is dotted with Tourist information points, many of which are shaped like a crystal dome. These provide a wide range of information such as free maps listing the various attractions around the town.
Reus offers much more than just an airport. The birthplace of Antonio Gaudi, the town is home to a centre dedicated to his life and work. You can also soak up Art Nouveau heritage as you meander from shop to shop. The town is easily accessible with the Plana buses, which run approx. every thirty minutes.
Salou and the surrounding areas offer countless opportunities to bag a bargain.

Europe's 8th largest city is less than an hour and a half away from Salou by bus. Visit the Zoo, the Nou Camp football stadium, Gaudi's works, the Ramblas and the magic fountains for a taste of this beautiful city. Escorted tours run daily, although the city is also easily accessible via normal public transport for those who wish to travel at their own pace.
La, Roca Village, Barcelona
La Roca Village is an outlet shopping centre for those wanting a range of International clothing brands at a discount, The trip is organised by plana bus and costs 24.95E for adults and 22.95E for children.
High up the side of a mountain in the Catalonia national park is this 12th century Benedictine monastery. The monastery site feels like a small village and boast a variety of shops and restaurants alongside the religious offerings. The delicatessen and liqueur tasting are particularly popular and get busy very quickly.
The location offers fantastic views over the province, and for those brave enough to follow one of the many hilly walking trails some fantastic photo opportunities await. Nearby camping facilities make this site very popular with walkers.
Escorted tours are available from tour operators and the Plana bus company from as little as 30E per person.
Valencia is accessible from Salou by train and is approx 2-3 from Salou train station in the old town. The wonderful city is known for it's old and modern architecture and the various museums and is also famous for it's football club Valencia C.F. The attractions in Valencia also include a zoo(Bioparc Valencia), theatres, religious sites and parks.
Salvador Dali Museum
The museum is located approx 230km(Figueres) away from the Costa Dorada resorts and costs 39.95E for an adult and 29.95E for a child and the trip is organised by plana bus and the entry to the museum is included in the price.
