Expect family style picnic table seating in this local favorite.  Voted best in Texas catfish, the Clear Springs Cafe menu includes fried seafood, steaks, ribs and salads.  Food portions are generous and inexpensive.  The location is between New Braunfels and Seguin in the community of Clear Springs.

The restored restaurant structure was built in 1873 on land originally surveyed by James Bowie, a hero of the Alamo.  The building was used for storing cotton then transformed later into a community center used for dances, parties, plays, school functions, and political rallies.   The Clear Springs community, near the Guadalupe and Comal rivers, was the focus of German immigration between 1836 and 1845.  They came into the United States from the port at New Orleans with many settling in this part of the Texas "hill country."
