Visitors to Virginia Beach will appreciate the convenience of the VB Wave, the trolley system that is the heart of this city’s public transportation.  The numerous round Wave signs along Atlantic Ave. and other select destinations designate trolley stops, with trolleys arriving every couple of minutes.  The are three routes:  the Red Route 30 provides service to the shops, restaurants and hotels along Atlantic Ave (May 1-Sept. 30); the Yellow Route 31 Museum Express goes to the Marine Science Museum, Ocean Breeze Waterpark and other points south; and the Blue Route 32 Shoppers Express goes to the Shops at Hilltop and the Lynnhaven Mall (Memorial Day through Labor Day).  From Route 30, you can transfer to HRT Bus Route 33 at 40th Street to go to First Landing State Park or the Association for Research and Enlightenment.

Single fares are $1.50, and all day and multi-day passes are available.  Small children ride for free. Tickets can be purchased at the various Sunsations along Atlantic Avenue and in vending machines near the stops.  The trolleys run in dedicated lanes, avoiding the heavy automobile traffic on Atlantic Ave.

You can rent a bicycle or stay at a hotel or b&b that includes them in your stay or bring your own. That gives you the ultimate in flexibility because you can ride the bicycle path all along the Boardwalk or go anywhere else you stamina will take you. And, you won't have to think about or pay for parking!  Bicycle racks may or may not be available on the Wave.
