Favorite things in Bar Harbor

  • The area around the Schooner Head Overlook in Acadia National Park.  Walk the well-worn paths to the water, sit on the rocks and look out at the ocean waves, lobster boats and the belll buoy. The sights and sounds and smells are all wonderful.
  •  The Bass Harbor Head Light and the rocks just beyond Otter Cliffs where you can look back and see miles of shoreline and the Park Loop Road.
  •  After a day of hiking, linger over your lemonade and popovers at a table on the lawn of Jordan Pond House.

  • The Burning Tree in Otter Creek- don't miss it.
  • Mache Bistro in Bar Harbor
  • Eat-a-Pita in Southwest Harbor. It's quirky, a little hippie-ish with slow service but the sandwiches are great as is the view from the outside tables.

  • Nothing beats a walk in the park. Take time to walk the Shore Path right in town, the Ocean Drive Trail from Sand Beach to Otter Cliffs and head over to Bar Island about 2 hours before absolute low tide.   All easy walks but beautiful.
  •  Hike, hike, hike!

  •  Watching the fog, all white and pretty, move over the Porcupine Islands in Frenchman Bay.
  •  Watching the boats going in and out of the harbor all day.
