The Flavel House Museum is a must-see for lovers of Queen Anne architecture. This historic home, completed in 1886, is on the National Register of Historic Places and is operated by the Clatsop County Historical Society. The house is located at the corner of 8th and Duane Streets.
You begin your tour at the Carriage House Visitor's Center behind the main house on the corner of 7th and Exchange Streets. There you will find a wonderful and informative introductory video about the family and the building of the house. There are additional exhibits including an original sleigh and a cute little gift shop. This is one of the major attractions not-to-miss while visiting Astoria, Oregon.
Just across Duane Street is the old County Jail building which was featured in the opening scene of the popular film The Goonies and is now the Oregon Film Museum.
