Ashford primarily exists as a gateway town near the Nisqually entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park.  It has a handful of restaurants, a bunch of cabin/roominghouse accomodations, two small food and sundries markets, an climbing/hiking outfitters store, a bead shop and a local pottery/art gallery/local crafts store.  It is very casual in feel.  It is easy to get a microbrew and a conversation...people are friendly.  There is no hard liquor retailed here except at one restaurant.  Enjoy the low key flavor and go ahead to the Park.  It is the reason everyone comes here.
