With a population of over one million, San Antonio is legitmately a big city. But much of its neighborhoods have an almost small-town feel, which allows travelers to feel a bit more at ease than they would in a city like Los Angeles or New York. And even as a big city, San Antonio is relatively safe for travelers. Common sense prevails when traveling - when you're in the big crowds at the Alamo Bowl or other events, keep an eye on personal belongings.

Don't walk alone at night in unfamiliar settings. Don't carry large amounts of cash. But above all, don't spend every second worrying about your personal safety because then you won't enjoy yourself.
