About the neighbourhood
The village street in Rockbourne is claimed to be one of the prettiest in Hampshire. The gently winding street in this peaceful village is tucked in rolling downland and is lined with Tudor and Georgian houses and splendid thatched and timber-framed cottages. The oldest homestead is the Roman Villa discovered by a farmer in 1942 and excavated in 1956 revealing mosaic floors and a most interesting Roman villa complex. Rockbourne and the nearby Whitsbury both have good pubs. The Rose Thistle in Rockbourne is a thatched 17th century with an unspoilt cosy interior. Expect a relaxing atmosphere and quality eating. The New Forest National Park is around a 10 minute drive away, with wonderful scenery, abundant wildlife, deer & wild ponies, and many opportunties for walking, cycling, horse riding and even kayaking & sailing.
