Edzell is a small village of only 700 inhabitants yet has almost every amenity you can think of within walking distance of Oakbank. From a superb golf-course with both 18 - , 9 holes and a floodlit driving range to restaurants, butcher, hairdressers, supermarket, garage, post-office, chemist, doctor, church, bowling club and health club. The local North Esk river is famous for its fishing and the Angus Glens are ideal for an easy stroll or a serious hike. The wonderful beaches at St. Cyrus and Montrose are less than half an hour by car or the kids might just like to potter around 'Edzell beach' or have a dip at the Pirners Brig. The Retreat has a lovely museum about the local area and tea-room and is worth visiting while driving up Glenesk. Local Edzell Castle and the House of Dun on the road to Montrose are two wonderful historic buildings not to be missed.

On the east coast of Scotland half way between Dundee and Aberdeen; Edzell in Angus is easily reached by car, plane, ferry or train.
* Driving north along the scenic A90, Edzell is just a few miles from this convenient dual carriageway.
* International airports can be found in Aberdeen (45 min.), Edinburgh (90 min.) and Glasgow (120 min.). Flights from London also go to Dundee (30 min.). Airlines to check out are BA, Easy-jet, KLM, Ryanair or Loganair .
* Ferries from the continent dock in Newcastle (DFDS), Hull (P&O).
* The nearest main train station is Montrose (10 miles) and local train station at Laurencekirk (12 miles) from where a taxi or bus can be taken to Edzell.
