Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Great to be back again!
This was the second time we had three-week stay at Le Clos and, as with the first visit, we had a most enjoyable time. The excellent facilities we remembered about the house were the same and our Golden Retriever immediately made himself at home in the large garden. We happily re-acquainted ourselves with the markets at Villedieu on Tuesdays and St Sever on Saturdays as well as buying croissants and bread daily from the nearby boulangerie in Fleury. A visit to Cancale chalked up a memorable "first" --- eating oysters (three for a euro!) and having a glass of muscadet ...at 9.30 in the morning! We also read that the camembert from the nearby town of Gavray had just been awarded the gold medal for the best in Normandy so that was worth a short drive to buy some. All in all, another lovely holiday at Le Clos --- and we certainly hope we'll be returning for a third time.

A charming cottage in peaceful, rural surroundings
Le Clos is a welcoming and attractive cottage, sited down a rural lane and surrounded by trees and fields. Fleury provides an excellent boulangerie and for other provisions the attractive town of Villedieu is only a short car ride away. Villedieu is a very pretty little town and the market day on Tuesday is great fun and full of life. There are many interesting places to visit in Normandy, so one is spoilt for choice, but it was always good to return to the utter peace and quiet of Le Clos, with the soothing presence of the cattle nearby. We enjoyed a very happy two weeks there.

Beautiful countryside, spotlessly clean house and a perfect location to explore Normandy
On arrived we were amazed with the cleanliness of the house. After hours of travelling with the children asking "are we nearly there yet?" it was such a relief to see that the house was so homely, spotlessly clean and brilliantly equipped with absolutely everything that we needed. The children could not wait to use the swings and we opened the bottle of Rose, left by the owners as part of the welcome drinks. The village bakery (not open on Mondays) was brilliant; selling beautifully fresh breads and cakes and only a very short car or bike ride away. During our weeks holiday we visited the stunning Carolles beach, Granville, Mount St. Michael and a few chateaus on our travels around - all within 1 hours drive. I would highly recommend this property to anyone seeking an authentically 'French' experience in the heart of a beautiful and tranquil area but also wants the convenience of all the amenities of a nearby town (Villedieu-Les-Poëles) ......Best of both worlds!! As a non-French speaking family we found absolutely no problem finding our way around Normandy, ordering food in restaurants and shopping in the local market and shops.

Beautiful, rural gite; ideal for discovering Normandy
This was our 2nd stay at Le Clos and our first in Summer. Unfortunately, we weren't very lucky with the weather as it was quite rainy , but we did manage to find lots of interesting things for the children to do. We enjoyed the local pool, with slide. Our favourite discovery however was Normandie Luge - http://www.normandie-luge.com/ - a sort of sledging-down-a-mountain-in-summer experience. We always enjoy the markets and towns and had some lovely meals in Villedieu-les-Poeles. The master bedroom was large and comfortable (as we remembered) and the children liked their rooms. Always useful to have 2 bathrooms (1 ensuite to master). The kitchen was well stocked and it's always nice to get a welcome pack. All for a great price too. We'd come from Dorset the previous week and had paid double the amount for a property the same size!!!

Has potential, but needs to be better managed.......
Our group of six stayed here as part of a longer French holiday. The location is good, with plenty of interesting things do do in the local area. Places such as Mont St Michel, Cherbourg and Glanville are all within an hours drive. The local village of Villedieu des Poeles is only ten minutes away and is quite charming. Le Clos is a nice enough building on a small rural block, tucked away at the end of a quiet lane. Upon arrival we got off to a bad start because there was no hot water, Apparently someone was supposed to switch it on for us, but it wasn't on, so this wasn't a great first impression. Also the lawns had not been mown and there was very high grass preventing access to the clothes line (see picture). Inside, the main bedroom was spacious, but the two other bedrooms were only tiny with no hanging room. To make matters worse our room (which was small anyway) was cluttered with baby stuff, toys and a cot. The beds were very hard and with poor quality pillows. Towels were provided, but were only tiny, and only one per person for a one week stay - hardly luxury..... Downstairs in the living room the furniture was very uncomfortable and there was no sound system, just an old (and broken) boom box. In summary, this place has potential, but needs to be better set up to meet the needs of modern travellers. Probably won't be going back.

Many thanks for your review and feedback as we are always looking to improve our guests' experience of Le Clos. We apologise that the water had not been switched on for your arrival which was a clear oversight but are very surprised by some of your other comments as you had previously indicated in feedback to ourselves via our electronic survey that "we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others". Thank you too for posting the photos as we always like to see the garden in different seasons. These photos show the wildlife gardens and not the lawn at the front of the house which is regularly mown. Our guests do tend to really appreciate the land around the house but we will certainly ensure the grass by the washing line is kept low in the future. Do please contact us directly if you would like to discuss any aspect of your stay further as we would be delighted to welcome you back from Australia and help you enjoy the property as much as our other guests have done.

Comfortable, well-furnished property in lovely quiet surroundings.
There was only me, my wife and our Golden Retriever dog at the property where we spent three very enjoyable weeks. Having a boulangerie and a bar/brasserie within walking distance was a big plus for us as we have not enjoyed that luxury before at other gites. The location is excellent being within a few minutes of the main road to Granville in one direction and nearby Villedieu-les-Poeles the other. The main peage is also just minutes away, making our arrival so easy after a long drive.. The kitchen was very well-equipped and of a much better standard than previous places we have stayed. Lovely garden and terrace too for al fresco dining --- although, as sun worshippers, a couple of sun loungers would have been welcome. There is a useful information pack for guests wishing to visit places of interest and details of the various local market days. And, in case of emergencies, there are phone numbers for contacting the housekeeper who lives in the area. All In all, we had a great time and certainly hope to return.

Living the French lifestyle in a Normandy country cottage
Drive down the laneway to Le Clos past the grazing cattle and you will fall in love with this beautiful Normandy cottage. A very warm cosy cottage, and very quiet with only the breeze making a noise. A drive into the nearby village of Villedieu will get you all the wonderful French food you can buy, and do not miss the street market on a Tuesday. From here we visited Mont St MIchel, Bayeux and the famous tapestry, and the Normandy beaches. And do not miss the oysters at Cancale. Having driven across France for a while before we arrived at Le Clos for a week's stay, it gave us a chance to relax and recover. There were only the two of us, but the cottage is ideal for a family as well. Very much recommended.

A perfect gem nestled in the fields of Normandy
My husband and I had a delightful time at Le Clos. The home was clean, cozy and equipped with a well stocked kitchen. The home's location is perfect for those wanting to explore both the D Day Beaches and Mont Saint-Michel. Since we didn't have to check in and out of hotels every couple days we were able to fully unwind and enjoy the beautiful countryside. As a result, we were able to accomplish our two goals 1) relax 2) educate ourselves!

Lovely
It was a last minute booking with a bit of complications, but the owner could not have been more helpful and hospitable. We were looking for a country get-away and that is exactly what we got. The gite is located in a very private setting in the middle of bucolic serenity, and the locals we met were friendly and just lovely as well. The house is well-equipped and very clean. The house is actually a new construction and therefore perhaps lacks characters if that is what one is after, but the newness certainly makes the stay more comfortable. Recommended.
