About the neighbourhood
Cape Agulhas is located in the Overberg region, 170 kilometres (105 mi) southeast of Cape Town. The cape was named by Portuguese navigators, who called it Cabo das Agulhas—Portuguese for 'Cape of Needles'—after noticing that around the year 1500 the direction of magnetic north (and therefore the compass needle) coincided with true north in the region. The cape is within the Cape Agulhas Local Municipality in the Overberg District of the Western Cape province of South Africa. The nearby small airport of Andrew's Field services Agulhas.
South of Cape Agulhas the warm Agulhas Currentthat flows south along the east coast of Africa retroflects back into the Indian Ocean. While retroflecting, it pinches off large ocean eddies (Agulhas ring
Things to do in L'Agulhas and Struisbaai
When visiting the Southern tip of Africa you can really leave your reality behind because it won’t follow you to these two relaxed coastal villages. Let time stand still and the natural beauty entice your imagination. The only tough decision to make is whether you feel like going on a seaside adventure, visiting a shipwreck graveyard or relaxing with a spectacular view. As soon you enter the sleepy seaside town with the rustic buildings and the lull of the ocean you will immediately begin to relax. Nothing quite says you are on holiday like a seaside vacation, but don’t relax just yet, there are plenty of exciting outdoor adventures to take part in.
The ocean is the base for many of the attractions
