We have just had the most relaxing long weekend break in this fabulous cottage right by the sea. The owner, Columb, had the place perfectly prepared for our arrival and the open fire was a cosy treat in the evenings. Our 8 yr old son and our two dogs loved the walks on the beach and paddles in the sea....

Have stayed here twice now, with friends, and we just love it. Character property as close to a beach as you could ever achieve, with the most beautiful view of a quiet little bay from your living room chair, with a very good open fire to comfort you further. There are a few properties around you but we have visited...

Just back froma 2 night stay with my husband and 2 dogs. Beautiful little cottage that's right down by the beach with the most amazing sea views. Location couldn't be better and cottage so cosy. Perfect for days on the beach and cosy evenings by the fire. Weather amazing for January- so sunny and warm. For a truly relaxing weekend...

The living and kitchen/dining areas are free-flowing and mostly open plan, and combined with a cathedral ceiling with exposed oak beams (from which the boat used to hang), allows for a relaxing experience.

About the neighbourhood
Greencastle ( with an 18-hole golf course), has an excellent bathing beach. On a rock overlooking the entrance to Lough Foyle are the ruins of the castle after which the place is named. Built in 1305 by the 'Red Earl' of Ulster, Richard de Burgh, it was captured eleven years later by the forces of Edward Bruce. Noted for its fishing industry Greencastle is building a reputation as a sea-food mecca.

The area provides easy reach to about 7 golf courses with 1 hour travel, and to numerous historical sights. Of particular interest is Grainin of Aileach (3000 year old ring fort!), Historic City of Derry, Bishops Palace and Mussenden Temple (which you can see from the rocks near the Boathouse), Giant's Causeway (take the ferry from Greencastle to Magilligan), Portrush and the Antri...

Airport: City of Derry http://www.cityofderryairport.com/: 45.0 km
Railway: Derry: 38.0 km
Ferry: Larne http://www.portoflarne.co.uk/: 110.0 km
From Derry, follow the directions north to Moville, along the west bank of the river Foyle. From Moville, follow the road to Greencastle, and through the village toward Greencastle golf club. Go past the entrance of the golf club for approximately 1.4km, passing 2 mobile home sites on left (one wooden, one regular), and one (regular) hidden on the right. The entrance to the Boathouse is on the right hand side of the road, with metal crafted gates. If you arrive at night, then it is marked by an orange streetlight on the right hand side. There are four other well-spaced houses in the area, but ours is distinctive and easily identified as the converted RNLI boathouse, just 15 metres from the water's edge - you can't miss it!
