Little Terraces is an ideal base for a couple to visit The New Forest and surrounding cathedral towns - which is why we went. May is a lovely season in the forest as there are many colts and foals and - if you are lucky - baby deer .... we were!😀 Downton is an interesting village with excellent walks from...

My partner ,dog and I have just returned from our lovely getaway to the little terraces New Forest. Little terraces is extremely well equipped, with great attention to detail on things that we ourselves had forgotten ! for example a rucksack ,ice pack picnic blanket ,picnic basket! the Cottage itself is in a fantastic location with everything nearby with great...

About the neighbourhood
Little Terraces is within easy walking distance of the shops, pubs and cafes in Downton, the latter serving excellent food. Riverside or country walks can be taken directly from the door. The area is well known for its superb fishing venues. Just a 5 minute drive and you are in the New Forest National Park with its free roaming ponies, cattle, deer and pigs. It is a bird watchers paradise. There are ample opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding through the trees or over the open heathland, which bursts into purple with the heather in August. Autumn brings the glorious golds of the changing leaves, followed by the sparkling frosts and snow of winter. Getting around
Downton is well served by buses, both locally and to Ringwood and Bournemouth in the south and Salisbury in the north. There are lots of lovely local walks and the Forest is just 5 minutes in the car or a short cycle ride.

Downton is easily accessed from the north via the M3 and M27, and then a delightful drive across the New Forest. Good links are provided from the south west via the A303, the south via the A338 and from the east you will use the A27 and M27.
