Hooks Barn is a recently converted ( Nov 2013 ) old cider barn on the very edge of the Forest of Dean. Situated in a quiet hamlet, just 4 miles out of the historic town of Ross On Wye. It has all home comforts and is a great base for visiting the area. Its a great place for a couple. The Wye valley has been a holiday destination since the 1860's and there is plenty to see and do in the area. The Barn has central heating, and all you could need for a great self catering holiday. You have your own patio area with BBQ and also a private area withing the owners garden with great views of the surrounding countryside. There is also a covered outdoor area. ****PLEASE NOTE - HOOKS BARN IS TOTALLY NON SMOKING **** -if you are a smoker we request you book elsewhere No Children. About the neighbourhood
We are on the very edge of the Forest Of Dean - theres a boundary marker from 1832, two yards from the front door. You can walk out onto our country lane and within five minutes be walking through forest. The garden overlooks fields with horses in. We get badgers in the garden at night. Owls hoot, woodpeckers drill, donkeys bray. The local pub (The Crown) is about a mile and a half away, and has an Indian restaurant attached. The main part of the forest is a short car ride away and has brilliant cycle tracks, walking routes and a very popular 'Sculpture Trail'. Then theres Symond's Yat with its brilliant views, loads of castles and other places to visit. The River Wye itself offers canoeing, and walking (next to it, not in it).
Getting around
You will need a car if you want to explore the area. Most stuff is within 10-15 miles and there is a wealth of different attractions that will easily keep you busy for a week. ( If you don't have a car, but just want to chill in the barn, that is possible - If you book for a week, we will pick you up from Gloucester station and bring you back via a supermarket mega shop.)
