The open terrace is particularly private in that it is situated in a quiet part of a protected wooded resort, not overlooked by other apartments and away from the main public access and activity areas of the complex and beach areas, where guests may choose to relax under the shade of the airy aromatic pine trees, or sunbath, whilst enjoying views of the sea and the imposing mountainous landscape of the distant mainland beyond. The Resort also includes a shared swimming and toddlers pool, with free Wi-Fi and car parking. The waters which the complex overlooks, are particularly crystal blue clear and as they are not tidal and the beaches are gently inclined, they make for a very safe area for families to bath and boat in. Lumbarda is well known for the markets and festivals it hosts during the summer months, in an area which is particularly well known for its wine growing and local sea food, where a tour of the local vineyards can be easily arranged. Regular bus, water taxi and car taxi services are the easiest way to travel to the breathtaking views from the beautiful nearby fortified town of Korcula, situated close by, the birth place of the famous explorer Marco Polo. While in Korcula town, guests may take advantage of the spectacular views from the many outside restaurants that occupy the tops of the city walls or relax over cocktails in the town square overlooking the marina. Of particular interest is the medieval architecture, the local shops and the town markets which occupy part of the city walls close to the town centre. There are many guided tours in an around the island, such as the tour-guided boat trips to the many of the neighbouring islands or the many guided cycling and motorised buggy tours around the remote scenic parts of the island, there is always plenty to see and do. About the neighbourhood
Lumbarda is a fishing village, overlooking crystal blue waters, with a choice of fine dining, situated in a wine growing region of the island, about 6 km away from the fortified medieval town of Korcula, connected by bus and water taxi. It doesn’t have the buzzing air of the capital, nor its day-trippers and cruise visitors. But what it does have is a wonderfully laid-back atmosphere and – a rarity in Croatia – sandy beaches. The two main ones are on the eastern side of the village, Bilin Zal and Vela Przina, and the long stretches of sand make them popular with families. During the summer season, which begins in June, Lumbarda’s mellow mood steps up a gear, including Friday night fish barbecues in front of the little village beach.
Getting around
See 'Useful Travel Links' as mentioned under 'Getting there' above. In addition to water and road taxies, the public bus service on the island is dependable and offers a regular service around the island. If flying into Dubrovnik or Split, car hire we find is not expensive and is not much more expensive than the cost of public transport to the island, if at all and you have the use of the car throughout your stay, although car hire is unnecessary and tends to be the exception rather than the rule amongst our guests and apartment owners there alike.
