Upper Hagg Cottage is an amazingly unique and tasteful blend of an early 18thC. home, complete with mullioned windows, exposed original stonework, beams and a 21stC. interior, with suspended staircase and bright, modern furnishings. Pennine Yorkshire is an area of outstanding beauty, contrasting the verdant green hills & luxuriant valleys with its role as a centre of the Industrial Revolution evidenced by the former mill towns and their architecture. Local mill towns are now vibrant centres of art, entertainment and independent coffee and eating establishments. Whilst not really suitable for children (open suspended staircase, 'industrial type' grill flooring and expanses of mirrors and glass including the dining table) it is ideal for that romantic getaway or for chilling with friends a...Upper Hagg Cottage is an amazingly unique and tasteful blend of an early 18thC. home, complete with mullioned windows, exposed original stonework, beams and a 21stC. interior, with suspended staircase and bright, modern furnishings. The cottage, adjacent to a working farm, has extensive views from the doorstep with a first floor lounge to maximise this advantage.More

Quirky little cottage, well equipped, great base for exploring Yorkshire with our two grandchildren. They want to return with their parents!

Upper Hagg cottage is delightful, cosy and very well equipped. The log burner and underfloor heating kept us warm in chilly weather! Bathrooms clean and bedroom is extremely comfortable. The cottage was ideal for an Easter break and some long walks in the countryside.

Upper Hagg Cottage is where traditional rural Yorkshire life meets the 21st century seemlessly. The cottage has all the old features, stone walls, fireplaces, beams and rafters but with the comfort and style of 21st century living. We loved our stay here. The cottage kitchen...More

About the neighbourhood
The immediate area is quite rural with fields all around the cottages that are adjacent to the farm. The town centre of Honley is just 1 mile away and Holmfirth just a little more in the opposite direction. About 400m away, between the cottage and the main Holmfirth road (leading to the now famous Tour de France cycle route up the 'Côte de Holme Moss') is the small but ancient woodland of Hagg Wood in which is a group of bronze age field cairns. The hilly terrain means that even in the centre of a local town, you are never far from lush open fields or moors. idyllic.
Getting around
The main Woodhead Rd (A6024, c. 800m from the cottage) is the route South to Holmfirth, the Derbyshire Dales and also North to Huddersfield, the Yorkshire Dales and the M62 motorway to Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Hull (City of Culture 2017). The 310 bus (every 30 minutes) stops at the bottom of Hagg Wood Rd for travel to Huddersfield or to Hepworth via Holmfirth.
