The fourth addition to our small ‘portfolio’ of luxury coastal cottages, we think this may just be our best. Set in the picturesque ‘get-away-from-it-all’ fishing village of Sandend, between the pretty harbour towns of Cullen and Portsoy, this cottage has stunning views over the wide sandy beach from the kitchen, lounge and two front bedrooms. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Fabulous accomodation
A lovely wee break for a walking holiday - the house had everything you could ask for, with welcome goodies on our arrival. It was cosy and very comfortable with excellent cooking facilities. Hosts were very helpful. Also it is a lovely part of Scotland to explore.

Can’t wait to return!
What a brilliant find! Spacious, clean, comfortable, incredibly well equipped cottage in the most fabulous location. Perfect for families and dogs. Super helpful hosts, giving advice in advance, and supplying provisions on request. We very much hope to return next year. Thank you very much Wendy & Colin.

Great location
The cottage was great with wonderful views of the beach which was just across the road. The cottage was larger than expected and built into the hillside with an interesting roof garden. Parking was fine for two cars just outside the door - shortest unloading route I've ever had. The hosts were very helpful. Definitely recommend it. The cottage was very comfortable and warm. Nice to have the windows open and hear the sea all day and night. Nice touches like a crate in the side passage with kiddies buckets and spades and body boards and then direct access to the utility room for wet kit. Beach had a good range of waves - we were swimming most days and bodyboarding. Surfers were also finding good waves. Nice walks along the coast either way with cliffs and beaches. Findlater castle just around the coast is well worth a visit too.

Lovely relaxing cottage by the sea
Super location with wonderful views over the bay. Cottage was warm and welcoming with some lovely touches to make our stay an enjoyable experience. The cottage was much larger than we expected with a quirky roof garden which we didn't use, but imagine it to be a wonderful sun trap in the summer months. We very much enjoyed watching the waves and surfers from our bedroom window. Perfect location if you love the sea! Thank you Wendy.

Lovely as usual
Been to this beautiful wee cottage a few times now and just love it. The position is just fantastic, you can sit for hours just watching the sea rolling in and out, the surfers and dog walkers on the beach. It is always immaculate, so comfy, cosy warm and lovely bedding, . As well as being very well equipped there are lots of little things around, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, salt/pepper in the cupboard etc all available if you forgot to bring them with you. The fridge is well stocked as well, bacon, eggs, milk, bottle of wine, bread and butter. Wendy always pops in to say hello and to check that all is OK. I did find the couches too low but apparently they have now replaced them Hope to be back next year

10 Years of Fabulous Breaks
What can I say? We’re a family who don’t tend to revisit the same place as there’s so many new ones to try however for this cottage we make an exception. This was our 10th year staying here for October half term and we love this cottage and the surrounding areas so much it now feels like coming home. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need and so cosy. The owners, Wendy and Colin, are always on hand to help if needed. And that view!!!

Cosy winter retreat
Had a lovely stay at Sandend in this cosy and comfortable cottage. Really well equipped, and gorgeous views of the beach. Lovely coastal walks, great places to eat just a short drive away. Great swimming a stone’s throw from front door. Hope to return and explore the area further. Recommend this cottage as a quiet base for relaxing and exploring, even in November!

Our happy place
I think this was the 9th year we’ve stayed at the cottage which should speak for itself!! We’ve visited at English half term since our girls were in primary school - one is now at university and they love the place as much as we do. The location is perfect and we can spend hours walking on the beach or sitting on the bench watching the waves. The cottage is cosy and comfortable with all the home comforts you need to make your stay relaxing. Wendy and Colin the hosts are lovely and if you need to contact them nothing is too much trouble. An absolute gem which you won’t be disappointed with - thoroughly recommended.

Sanders Cottage
This accommodation was perfect for our stay. Excellent location overlooking beautiful Sandend Bay with all the amenities for a self catering break. Wendy was fabulous at tailoring the sleeping arrangements to accommodate my two young children and was very responsive to all requests. She also provided a lovely welcome food pack which was very appreciated after a long drive with kids and popped in to check everything was ok during the stay. Would highly recommend and we hope to be back very soon.

About the neighbourhood
Sandend is a 17th century fishing village, one of the smallest and perhaps one of the most attractive along the Banffshire coast. It is known by the privileged few as a mecca for surfers and kayakers and occupies a beautiful location opposite a pretty beach, perfect for catching the waves or just building castles in the sand. At its east end is the newly re-opened Glenglassaugh Distillery, founded in 1875 but mothballed in 1986. Nearby are the remains of the Glassaugh Windmill, built in the early 1700s. Still standing are a stump surrounded by a lower base: which explains its local name of the cup and saucer. Nearby Portsoy is a vibrant town, attractive with it’s twisting streets around the 17th century harbour. It has a number of pubs and restaurants as well as local shops and a small supermarket. It is also the home of the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival which takes place at the end of June. In the other direction Cullen is also worth a visit. Driving from Sandend, the cluster of cottages making up Seatown along with a wide expanse of sandy beach, are majestically framed by the arches of the disused railway viaduct. Cullen is famed as the home of ‘Cullen Skink’ – a lovely thick potato and smoked haddock soup, as well as one of the best ice cream shops in the area.
Getting around
There is a bus route which will take you along the coast to Elgin via Cullen or Banff via Portsoy, however a car is recommended!
