A quirky English lakeside retreat, where time stands still & relaxation is the order of the day…Sitting serenely at the end of a long private track & nestled within ten acres of private woodland on the western shore of Lake Ullswater, The Boathouse at Knotts End offers a truly ‘off-the-beaten-path’ experience. Built in the 19th century from local Cumbrian stone, this luxurious self-catering bolthole & its idyllic location provide a unique setting for honeymoons & romantic getaways at any time of the year.

Interaction with guests
The Boathouse at Knotts End is extremely private and ‘off-grid’ - no cars going by, no deliveries, & no neighbours, apart from the lake’s resident swans, some sheep, and if you are lucky enough to see them, some frolicking otters at dusk or dawn! The caretakers will have prepared Knotts End prior to your arrival and there is no concierge. The keys can be found in the lock box at the front door, the caretakers are a phone call away, and all the information and access codes you will need during your stay are provided in the Welcome Information emailed to you upon receipt of your final payment. Knotts End is all about total peace and tranquillity - nothing but the sound of birdsong and the lake water lapping beneath you.

Getting around
If you're not driving up we recommend you rent a car. There is a car hire company called Practical a 5 minute walk away from Penrith station (the nearest train station to Knotts End).

Otherwise, you can walk to Pooley Bridge from the Boathouse or take cabs - there are plenty to be found at Penrith Station and cabbies are happy to offer their cards to you in case you want to book them for another trip. We also have samples of their cards at Knotts End if you choose to book a cab at a later date.
