This traditional building with beautiful caldera and island views, has been restored and converted into a simple and friendly family holiday home. Teams of local artisans have used traditional crafts, techniques and materials to restore this authentic comfortable Santorini 4 bedroom dwelling. Approached via a footpath which has breathtaking views across the island and aegean beyond, the entrance to Spiti Stelios is into a large authentic cobblestoned courtyard whith outdoor dining area and barbecue. Spiti Stelios has a large 80 sq. mtr. sunbathing terrace, ideal for sitting with a glass of local wine and enjoying the spectacular sunsets (which are almost guaranteed on this island). On a clear day it is possible to make out as many as 7 different islands in the distance. Inside, the spacious living room features two traditional Santorini couches, scattered with locally made cushions and an alcove - which used to be the tread for the white grapes - now converted into a snug/TV area. The well equipped kitchen makes easy work of preparing breakfast/meals, with plenty of utensils, modern appliances and a dishwasher. Adjacent to the kitchen is one of the single bedrooms with breathtaking views of the island. An arched doorway leads to the central hallway which retains some of the original features of what used to be the red grape tread. The hallway leads to the second single bedroom, the master bedroom and the family bathroom with its loo with a view. The master bedroom is light and airy, with beautiful caldera views and double doors opening onto a second enclosed courtyard. Adjacent to the master bedroom is the other single bedroom. In total there are one master bedroom and two single bedrooms on this level. In addition there is an authentic 'yposkafo' double bedroom downstairs with en-suite wet room. This benefits from having its own independent entrance from the street but also from the second enclosed courtyard. This double en-suite yposkafo is carved out of the rock in typical Santorinian style and served as the workshop where cheese and other artisan products were made in years gone by. The rear courtyard also features an outdoor shower for rinsing off after the beach. The beautiful sugar-cube village of Pyrgos is one of the prettiest places on the island, built around the remains of the mediaeval castle, in a charming mixture of winding lanes and white-washed churches with distinctive blue domes. Pyrgos is centrally located with access to multiple beaches. Beaches There are at least 2 beaches which are only 15 min drive from Pyrgos (1. Kamari and 2. Vlychada). In addition, Perissa and Perivolos beaches are a 20 min drive from Pyrgos. While public transport is available from the village square, renting a car is strongly recommended. On the other side of the island there are several beaches most notably Vourvoulos, Baxedes, Pori and Cape Columbo. Cape Columbo is somewhat secluded and a perfect location if you are looking for peace and quiet. It is reputed to 'sit' on a series of mini volcanic craters deep under the sea bed and the far end of this beach is a naturist/nudist beach. Walks You can walk along the cliffs from Fira to Oia, about 11 km. Start out in the morning when it's cool and be sure to take along plenty of water, a snack, sun cream, sunglasses and a hat! There is a hiking trail between Perissa Beach and Kamari Beach that passes by the archaeological site of Ancient Thira at the summit of the mountain. The Perissa side is a dirt trail. The Kamari side is a paved road with steep switchbacks. Not counting the time you spend exploring Ancient Thira, the hike will take you about 2 hours. Restaurants In the village, there are several local restaurants and tavernas, all within a short (7 min) walk from Spiti Stelios. We are also conveniently situated near two of the best restaurants the island has to offer: Selene restaurant and Metaxi Mas taverna, both a mere 15 min walk from the house. THE place to stay in stunning Santorini
We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our amazing stay at Spiti Stelios. This lovingly restored house was well equipped and had all the mod cons you needed for everyday living but it was also full of beautiful touches illustrating its previous use as a winery. It was both spotlessly clean and very tastefully furnished to a high standard. The highlights of the house were undoubtedly the outside spaces - the spacious roof terrace with amazing panoramic views of the island and the large courtyard where we had several barbecues with some dishes made using Stelios’s fantastic Greek recipes! Spiti Stelios is located in the village of Pyrgos, the highest village on the island, and although there is a path to walk up to reach the house, we never minded the walk because of the outstanding views on the way. The village of Pyrgos itself is, in my opinion, the place to stay on the island, not just for the fantastic restaurants like Kantouni, Cava Alta and Penelope’s a few minutes’ walk away, but it was lovely to return to relative quiet of the village compared with the hustle and bustle of the busier places like Fira and Oia. These places are well worth a visit as are some of the fantastic wineries on the island and Spiti Stelios’s central location makes it a great base for doing just that. I couldn’t write a review of Spiti Stelios without mentioning Stelios himself and his wife Caroline who went above and beyond expectations when we were booking our stay. They promptly answered all our messages and facilitated the planning of our holiday in many ways. On site Ester made us feel equally welcome from providing arrival goodies in the fridge, to giving us lots of useful tips about the locality and even providing a lift to take us to Metaxy Mas restaurant when we couldn’t get a taxi! So, thank you to the “Spiti Stelios Team” who helped to make our stay so memorable and we will definitely be back to Pyrgos and Spiti Stelios again.

Dear G****, Thank you for your kind words, we know how important holidays are to our guests and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Spiti Stelios. Glad that you enjoyed the spacious roof terrace with the panoramic views of the island and the large courtyard with the barbeque. Extra kudos to you for trying out some of Stelios’ recipes  and good to hear that the house offered the mod cons to make your stay comfortable. Pyrgos village is indeed unique, it is the only year-round working village on Santorini which still retains its ‘Greek’ village charm. We do hope to welcome you back one day, meanwhile we wish you happy memories!

One-of-a-kind place to be
Spiti Stelios was by far the best holiday home we've ever rented, and for many reasons! Communication with Carolyn was super friendly and easy from the start. She never tired of answering all our questions to make us feel welcome before we even got to there. On site, Ester made us just as welcome with all kinds of useful tips you can only get from a local, including some Greek food to get us started, availability whenever needed throughout our stay and a warm goodbye at the end. The location of Spiti Stelios is just amazing, and every step you take up the hill to get there is worth it. Just take a breath from time to time and enjoy the stunning views across the island! The house itself is truly special and authentic, beautifully renovated by its owners with respect to its Cycladic architecture, and extremely well kept. It is tastefully furnished and spotless, equipped with just the right amount of the good and useful things (and far from being cluttered with things you often get but never need in a holiday home...). So we truly appreciated the inside of the house and the two courtyards, but the highlight of Spiti Stelios is definitely its spacious roof terrace with an almost 360 degree view of the island. Be it in the early morning hours, for sunsets or late at night - sitting there and just marvelling at the view from our private front row seat was the best part of our Santorini holiday! Of course we went to many of the sights Santorini has to offer, and to the beautiful beaches nearby, but we always loved to come back to the quiet of Spiti Stelios, leaving the hustle of the island behind and still being at its heart somehow. We particularly enjoyed the picturesque alleyways of beautiful Pyrgos, where every turn is worth a photo stop (starting right at the doorstep of Spiti Stelios), and we especially loved the atmosphere at Kantouni's and Brusco's in easy-going Pyrgos Square. So we say thank you to the lovely people who made our stay such an unforgettable experience! We will definitely be back to Pyrgos and Spiti Stelios some day.

Don't look elsewhere
This is THE place to stay if you are going to Santorini. From the time we requested availability to the check out after a superb week's stay, everything was super. We could not have asked for more from Caroline who was very attentive with emails and answers to questions, or Esther who met us with the key - and a fridge of welcome goodies. Pyrgos for us was by far the pick of places to stay. We had a car and so getting to and from any place on the island was quick and easy. The villa has everything you could possibly want. It is spacious, clean, attractive, well appointed and all in all, a real gift for a family or group. The courtyard offers a sheltered outdoor space and the rooftop, the ideal place to view the Santorini sunset. I cannot say too much about this wonderful place. We will surely be back and wouldn't bother to look elsewhere for a second Santorini holiday.

We try to offer our guests the same experience we have, when we visit our home there – that is all we can do! Very glad you felt the house was spacious and that you enjoyed the courtyard and the roof terrace, which indeed is the ideal place to sit and watch your very own Santorini sunset from!

Sun, Sand & Paradise
My three traveling companions & I have just returned to hurricane-ravaged Florida after a much needed respite in beautiful Santorini, Greece. We now have the energy to continue our clean-up efforts, thanks to the restorative powers of the island's balmy weather & gracious inhabitants. Our hosts were Caroline & Stelios, the owners of the lovely, history-filled villa we rented. While never meeting, they did send the very knowledgeable caretaker to greet us upon arrival & she was very thorough re: practical points of our villa, plus the surrounding areas. As far as pros/cons in relationship to the villa, the pros won hands down! The 4 bedrooms had lovely linens & adequate storage & except for the 'cave' qtrs, all bedrooms had spectacular views. The downstairs sleeping qtrs was an ensuite that was very unique, plus there was also an outdoor shower right outside its entry. The other 3 bedrooms shared a centrally located bath that included a washing machine. The kitchen was fully equipped, including a dishwasher & coffee maker. Our living area had ample seating & also a small alcove furnished with a daybed-while there were just four of us, the villa can sleep seven comfortably. The outdoor living spaces were incredible, with a large area set-up with seating as you first enter through the main gate(the wall is high enough for complete privacy). From there you can go up via the open staircase to the rooftop lounge area where chaise lounges await & the vista is incomparable! The entire island lays before you, along with the sparkling Aegean Sea-the village of Prygos is the island's highest point. The final outdoor space can be accessed through the metal side doors or a bedroom on the main floor. There you find a small bistro table/chairs & the outdoor shower, plus the entry into the 'cave' ensuite. Suggestions for an even more pampered stay would be to install ceiling(or even floor)fans in the bedrooms, as the upstairs master & the cave ensuite tended to be stuffy when the temps range in the high 80's. Also, a booster for the WIFI would be an enormous improvement, as connection was only available consistently in the living room, kitchen & right outside the front door. Dining is a quick walk away, if you so desire, with many great choices & there's a small market right down the hill. We decided upon a rental car, as we explored the island, ruins, museums & beaches, however, there is a bus system & of course taxis. In conclusion, I can think of nowhere better to spend your downtime, here on Santorini, than this beautiful villa in picturesque Pyrgos. Penny Dee Williams Punta Gorda, FL USA

Thank you so much for a fabulous review. We take guest feedback very seriously, as it helps us make improvement for future guests. We will explore the option of fans, though in our experience the Northerly aspect of the property is such that opening the master bedroom windows and the front lounge windows usually creates a very pleasant breeze in all but the most windless of days. As for the WiFi – even with the very latest router we installed just prior to your arrival! – the very nature of the 80-110 cm thick walls of this traditional dwelling and the fact that the ‘yposkafo’ (cave room) is downstairs, means that the WiFi signal has its limitations. Otherwise we are glad you enjoyed the incredible living space this house has to offer and the incomparable views from the roof terrace. We are glad to hear that the overall experience helped restore your energy to return to the hurricane-ravaged Florida with fond memories from this island of balmy weather and gracious inhabitants!

Wonderful Staying
Thanks again Stelios and Caroline for everything, we had a lovely family time. We saw many parts of the island and enjoyed several great meals (including at the restaurants you recommended to us)! The Villa had everything we needed and its location was just perfect to enjoy our time there, close to several beautiful beaches and very convenient for everything else. Could not expect better holidays!!! Hope we will be lucky enough to come back!

Holiday in heaven
From the moment we first booked with Caroline and Stellios we knew we had made the right decision. They were so helpful leading up to the holiday. Once we arrived at the villa we were so impressed with the beautiful old winery. Finished to a high standard without loosing any of the original features. It has a wonderful homely feeling with an amazing view of the island and the famous sunsets. Definately the most unspoilt village on the island - local feel to the whole village. Our family had the best 2 weeks holiday thanks to Caroline allowing us to share their wonderful villa. We really cannot rate this experience highly enough to do it justice. Thank you so much.

Beautifully presented cave house situated in the most pituresque village on the island, coupled with exceptional hosts!
We (family of four with a toddler and baby) and our friends (a couple with their baby), had a fantastic week staying here. We all loved the house (kids included) and the stunning roof terrace, despite having no railings (which Caroline and Stelios alerted us to before booking), and short hill walk up to the house did not provide us with any difficulties. I would fully recommend this place to young families, Caroline and Stelios (and their local host, Ester) could not do enough for us, and were so thoughful about our needs.. such as leaving toys for our toddler (a MASSIVE hit) and local groceries to get us started. Despite initially looking at other places nearer the beaches, I think we all agreed that this was the best location on the island - incredible views and a lovely untouristy village with fantastic restaurants. Santorini is small enough to explore everywhere else very easily. A fantastic place. Thank you Caroline and Stelios, and Ester!
