Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Nature’s Paradise!
We’ve stayed at this amazing retreat twice (we are Minnesotans) and will return yet a third time. The setting is remarkable! Hard to decide whether to drive Kruger or stay on Rafikis veranda and let the animals come to us. Everything so convenient- five minute drive to Crocodile bridge. Best of everything. Marloth Park is wonderful- but be picky. Some of the other rentals are not green, private, and as well located as Rafikis.

Ruime woning vlakbij kruger.
Zeer ruime woning in Marloth park.

most welcoming garden full of wildlife
We were here as a family with 4 children end we had an unforgettable stay. Almost daily we had visitors in the garden: baboons, velvet monkeys, bush bucks, impalas, mongooses, warthogs, zebras, kudus, , bushbabys, a genet cat, ... One day we even had upto 7 different animals at once at our porch! The house is not modern but sure is OK. The garden full off animals makes everything just fantastic and peaceful. There was lots to do for the children: the small swimming pool next to the house, the bigger swimming pool with slides in Marloth Parc, quats, walks through Marloth Parc and next to Crocodile River, fishing on a boat and of course visiting Kruger National Park. The owner Gerda stayed nearby in the periode we were there and she was very helpful. Also Betty the housewife was friendly en helpful. A memorable vacation!

Thank you so much for your detailed review. You have been such lovely guests and your 4 children are an example to all. It was a pleasure and an honour to meet your family and receive you in our house. I think that the animals must have felt the warmth you spread and could not stop from visiting you several times a day. Thank you. Gerda and Betty

Very nice experience
Although we have been at Kruger several times this one was special . The daily close encounters with the wildlife in your own garden is a different experience. The resthouse is great, the host wonderful and Betty the housekeeper a warm and cheerful sunshine. Worth the experience

Loved my stay
I saw this house on and knew right away I must book it and I am so glad I did, its one of those rare occasions when you see something and think this is too good to be true well it was true. The house is situated in Marloth Park its secluded and surrounded by trees and the bush. The house is very large with everything you need 4 large bedrooms, the kitchen has everything you need. But when you are there and not sleeping you will spend your time on the decking which has 2 tables and plenty of seating, from here you will relax and listen to the wildlife and you will be visited by many of them too, in our short stay we were visited by Warthogs, deer, Kudu's and Zebra's but there could be others too we often heard the Hippo's from the house. There is a pool for a dip in the hot weather and a braai area (BBQ) Within 3 minutes walk you can get to the River Crocodile fence and see wildlife in the Kruger Park 1st day we saw Hippo's and elephants. Marloth Park is a nature park of its own as you drive around you will see plenty of wildlife there are two shopping centres and various restaurants also very useful is the Tourist information the couple that run it are very helpful. It takes about 20 minutes to drive to the Kruger National Park Crocodile Gate, when you go take passport Numbers and if you have a SA National take their ID book. Gerda the owner is very helpful with tips and information about the house and surrounding area we really appreciated her help. Betty the house lady was wonderful she cleans the house and she is always respectful and she cooked us 2 wonderful meals, she will always help with advice too. I could write more as this has been the best holiday in my life. We will certainly return, its very safe as long as you stick to the rules Gerda will advise, respect the wildlife its their home first of all. Once you book Gerda will ask for payment by Bank Transfer this worried me at 1st but its really fine and nothing to worry about. I also recommend going to the Amazing Kruger View Restaurant for a sunset dinner the views are stunning the food great and the price very good considering where you are.

Thank you for the time that you put in your review. WE really appreciate this. We were very happy having you and your group as guests. You were responsive, respectful and great nature lovers. Great communication as well. Exactly the type of guests that we (and the animals) love to welcome. Thank you also for being so kind to Betty. I hope that one day we can meet at Rafiki's. One thing : the matter of payment depends how and where you book. In some cases, you book and pay through a third site and they pay us later (that adds to the accommodation fee, of course), on others you book through them but pay directly to us (your case) and other guests just reserve and pay directly to us. Many thanks, Gerda Sonck and Betty

My all-time favorite place to stay!
Like so many who come to the Kruger area, we came to see animals. Rafikis gives animal encounters that you won't get in Kruger and maybe not anyplace else even in Marloth Park. From the porch we got to see and admire kudu, bushbuck, wildebeast, mongoose, warthogs, gennett, bushbaby, and baboons(though we discouraged the invasive baboons). Some of these ate out of our hands. So much fun! In addition, Gerda, the owner gave us tips and trips to have even more fantastic animal encounters in Marloth Park and in Kruger. Because of Gerda, we got great sightings of lions, leopard, and even a civet. The house itself is clean and comfortable with everything needed. Refreshing pool from which we spotted birds, kudu and wildebeast. Love this place and look forward to going back!

Thank you for this review. You were really great guests. I did not realize that the tip for the civet worked, great. It is also good to hear that you discouraged the baboons from coming. Thank you for your stay and we would love to welcome you again!!!!!

Nice location, close to Kruger gate
We spent one week in Rafiki’s resthouse on Marloth park with a party of 6 and enjoyed the location 200 meter from the Krugerpark fence and the Crocodile river and a 10 minute drive to the Kruger Crocodile Bridge gate. Made several day trips into the park. The house is spacious but dated, some maintenance needed, and unfortunately we experienced frequent loadshedding (up to 6 hours without electricity, no fridge, no wifi etc) and water shortage in Marloth park, but Gerda, the owner living in the cottage next to the house kept us updated on the energy situation and sightings along the Crocodile river. The inside cleaning by Betty, the house keeper was fine, but we spent most of our time outside and had diner in several restaurants on Marloth park. Alltogether a pleasant week.

This review is written by the guest who hosted the author of the negative review below. A host remains responsible for his visitors' conduct, and disrespectful behaviour of visitors or damage caused, affects all involved. A few points should be clarified here - there indeed was water shortage in Marloth Park, but not at Rafiki's since there is a borehole - the house is a bush house as the pictures show and not one of the new straight grey concrete buildings now popping up in Marloth Park. Whether bush style is 'dated' depends maybe on one's taste and one would expect guests to book according to their personal preference - of course, it would have been good to know what ' the needed maintenance' would have been. Only a broken bulb was reported and it was replaced within minutes. - the owners do not live there, but sometimes they stay in the cottage nearby. It may also be added here that is not appreciated if a guest links the writing of a review to deposit reimbursement.

Below expectations
Although the setting of Marloth Park is great, our experience at Rafiki did not meet our expectations: - The whole property is not particularly well maintained: pool not very clear, several broken pots in the garden. Remnants of broken previous brick braai area in garden - The WIFI is on a UPS which does not last, which results in it not coming back on when Eskom power is restored after loadshedding periods - The en-suite bathroom is so small that one has his/her head in the sink when on the toilet - Betty (the domestic worker) does not have a very helpful attitude. We had to prompt her several times to please clean the braai and she gave us the impression we were asking too much. Overall we had a good time but suspect it would have been better in one of the many other properties available in Marloth Park

This person did not book with us but was the guest of somebody else and seems to have a rather negative attitude. Some examples: - UPS does come back after load shedding but one has to wait a few minutes for automatic rebooting - Pool: guests enjoy the private pool and the next guests praised it and used it daily - Broken pots: there was one at the end of the garden, just broken by warthogs. Our garden is not fenced and animals can be boisterous - Betty has overwhelmingly positive comments from visitors. She deserves to be treated respectfully and can only do one thing at a time. Other comments (bricks, bathroom) just leave one puzzled, not to mention some disrespect for the house rules.

Mini Kruger on doorstep
8 days booked at Rafiekis. Great communication from Greda ( owner) leading up to our stay. On arrival, Betty, the on site house keeper, was on hand to show the house. What an awesome lady..nothing was too much trouble for her including walking the 7 Marloth Zebras back to the house to show my mother in law that Betty was keeping company. House is brilliant, everything works perfectly and has all the amenities needed. NB..read the info booklet on the coffee table on first day..will help you plan your activities. Great braai pit, perfect position of patio furniture to engage with the local wildlife. Easy 200m walk from Crocodile river fence..evenings sounds included hippo grunts, elephant parbing and 1 evening, a lion's continous roaring kept us awake. Hand feeding kudu giants standing 6ft high, warthog on their knees, wildebeest gently taking the recommended feeding pellets..one evening had at least 30 animals in the garden Oh, let's not forget the resident bushbaby or 2 which comes for its evening pudding of bananas served off its own wooden tray on the patio. House 200m down side road from enterance ( couldn't hear another car), 3.6 kms from marloth centre, 7.5km from great restaurants ( Jabula and Henk van rooyen really stunning), 13mins to Crocodile bridge gate entry into Kruger Well done Betty and Gerda. We are already planning next visit. Seriously folks..a brilliant option to launch your Kruger holiday
