Holiday Rental House
Camlann, our charming self catering cottage in the heart of Old Alyth, is perfect for that romantic getaway or to recharge your batteries. Built in the 19thc and set back from the main thoroughfare of Alyth up a short ‘vennel‘, it forms part of a string cottages built from the lovely red local sandstone. Many of of the cottages housed workers from the town’s two textile mills. It is quiet, snug and finished to an extremely high standard. If you love walking, golfing, or even mountain biking then Camlann is for you. There are also great castles to explore nearby, wildlife to watch, distilleries to visit and taste the 'amber nectar'. In the winter there is skiing in Glenshee, less than 30 miles away and all year round our local adventure centre offers Kayaking Trekking and Mountain Biking. ...Camlann, our charming self catering cottage in the heart of Old Alyth, is perfect for that romantic getaway or to recharge your batteries. About the neighbourhood
Alyth, from the Gaelic ‘aileach’ meaning ‘rocky place’, is situated on the Alyth Burn, a little over half an hour’s drive north-east of Perth and north-west of Dundee. It lies at the foot of the Hill of Alyth in the valley of Strathmore close to Perthshire’s Eastern boundary with Angus. Created a burgh with a market in 1488 by James III, Alyth developed in association with cattle droving and the wool, jute and linen trades. Its Market Cross dates from 1670, and by the early 1900s it was a thriving centre for retail and commercial enterprise with 100 shops along its bustling streets. Today, it has the only museum outside of Perth in Perthshire,a flourishing artistic community, and a growing tourism economy.
Getting around
Alyth is located 65 miles (105 km) north of Edinburgh, which takes about 1 hour 30 minutes by car. It is also 81 Miles (130km) from Glasgow, and 66 (107 km) miles from Aberdeen. The nearest train station is either Perth or Dundee (both just under 20 miles from Alyth) which offer services to cities in Scotland and the East Coast services to Newcastle, York and London. There is also a good hourly bus service from both Perth and Dundee (the Number 57). Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports offer international and domestic flights. Dundee airport provides services to London Stansted.
