Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Enjoyable stay
Great Location in the beautiful Scottish country side. Quite rural so a car is needed to get around. Within easy reach of Edinburgh,Glasgow and surrounding area. The lodge was well equipped with everything needed. Really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely peaceful place to stay with stunning views
Fabulous location for peace and quiet and relaxation. Lovely cabin with everything at hand. Really clean and given the typical Scottish weather the place was lovely and warm to come back to after a day out. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to get away from it all.

Top Lage, super Unterkunft
Absolut empfehlenswert!!!

Very comfortable stay
We had a great 5 night break at The Lodge. Well equipped and comfortable, it was also thankfully pretty much toddler proof! The owners had kindly provided a high chair which was very helpful. We loved visiting the farm animals, petting the farm dogs and our 15 month old loved seeing the tractors! Lovely quiet location within easy reach of Peebles (well worth a visit). West Linton also lovely. We also enjoyed Kailzie Gardens. Sadly the owners weren't in when we tried to go and buy some of their sausages and bacon, but from reading reviews it sounds like they are delicious! Would recommend!

Beutiful Countryside Cottage
Firstly the hosts Melanie and her husband were the perfect hosts available but not intrusive. The cottage is on a working farm, very tastefully furnished with all amenities. They have two very friendly dogs, it was a pleasure to play with them. Town of Peebles is close by and Edinburgh is not too far off (30 mins away). We will certainly visit them again. Best Wishes Rajeev & Radha

Comfy and Cosy
What's not to like. Set amist a working farm is this delightful accommodation set amongst the Scottish Borders landscape. It is peaceful, remote and ideal for getting away from the world. We adopted the farm dogs who joined us on walks in the local fields and we were won over by their natures. They both had a liking for rich tea biscuits so they had a nibble each. The accommodation has a well equipped kitchen, shower room and comfortable bed. The underfloor heating keeps the premise nice and warm. We were fortunate to witness several days of snow which transformed the landscape and made the hills sparkle. It is close to Edinburgh if you fancy doing city things and also close to local amenities being only a short drive away. Recommend and likely visit again.

Lovely child friendly stay in the countryside
A nice lodge situated in the quiet countryside but within easy travelling distance of many villages, towns and attractions. The kids loved being on a farm and seeing all the local residents! Well worth getting some of the farm's own bacon, sausages and eggs for breakfast. Would recommend this property and won't rule out a return ourselves.

A wonderful place to stay, great views and a great base for visiting Edinburgh & surrounding area
Newmill lodge is a lovely! Comfy, cosy, well equipped, and a fun place to stay. You are on a working farm which is really nice, There are many sheep and cows. We were lucky as it was lambing and calving season during our stay, and there were many gorgeous newborns. There's also some chickens around, so you can buy free range eggs, and meat. The two dogs on the farm are so nice and friendly, it was a joy to be greeted by them every day. There is a large wrap around deck which is nice to sit out on in the sunshine, which we thankfully had some of on our holiday. I don't think you need much more from a place to stay, there is free wifi, and satellite TV. The kitchen has plenty of cupboard space if bringing your own food, the fridge and freezer are a good size. The views are really stunning, that was one of the main reasons for us choosing this lodge as a holiday base. This was our first time staying in Dolphinton, it is a lovely quiet and friendly village. Not far to travel to many fantastic places like Edinburgh, and the beautiful east coast of Scotland. Although there are no shops in Dolphinton, West Linton is a very short drive and has some shops and good places to eat. We would highly recommend The Bakehouse for a meal if wanting to eat locally, the food and atmosphere are fantastic. Biggar is a fairly short drive away, you will find more shops and places to eat there. The ice cream at Cones & Candies is very yummy, worth a visit just for that. Peebles is a great place to visit, and again a short drive from Dolphinton. You have Glentress Forest which is great for cyclists and ramblers. I hear there is great salmon fishing on the river Tweed, so that is worth a go if you love fishing. We didn't fish this time, but will do on our next visit. There's also trout fishing on the river Clyde, and many nearby lochs and reservoirs. There are golf courses, one of which is an 18 hole course at West Linton. Hill walkers will be in their element with the surrounding hills and countryside. A really nice place to visit is New Lanark, there are some gorgeous waterfalls there called Falls of Clyde and it is free to park. You can take the bus to places like Biggar, Peebles and Edinburgh etc.. the bus stop is not far to walk to if you feel like a break from driving. Walking around Dolphinton is good, plenty of hills to ramble over if you wished to. We found a nice walk which goes up hill from the farm and eventually takes you through a forestry track, a local farmer came over to see if we were ok on our first day as we walked up the hill, he perhaps thought we were lost? He was very friendly and gave us a few directions for different walks. So you are ok to walk around the area, just be careful not to allow dogs off leads as there is livestock in the fields. And of course being careful to avoid fields with bulls in them! Bird watchers will also have plenty to spot around Dolphinton, you can simply sit on the deck and see many birds, which is a big plus. The owners have a small piece of woodland you can walk through which has some badger sets, I'm sure wildlife enthusiasts will love this place for so many reasons. We are looking forward to returning to Dolphinton, it isn't too far to travel to visit many good places for a day out from there, and we might even consider the area when we make the move to Scotland in the not too distant future...well here's hoping! We recommend this place whole heartedly! Hope others enjoy as much as we did. Thank you to the owners for making us feel so welcome.
