Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Great cottage, great location
Enjoyed a wonderful week here. The non-descript exterior from the road hides a fabulous view from the front room of Beinn Eighe with a path adjacent to the property leading to the lower slopes of the mountain. The bird feeder provided constant feasting (and viewing) of a huge number of different bird species - and we had a number of sightings of three pine martens. Cottage was spotless, instructions clear and helpful and Will and Sue quick to respond to queries.

The perfect location. What a view!
This is our first return to Cairn Shiel since the 1990's and was a bit of a 'farewell to the Highlands' following my husband's heart attack. We were a little worried that our memory of it might have become a bit rosier with the passing years - but it is still as special as ever. The situation is fantastic, with a view of beautiful Beinn Eighe from the picture window in the lounge, and Slioch off to the right as you look out. The window seat is a very welcome new touch, and was also the perfect place to watch the plentiful bird life. The cottage is simply but well appointed, with ample space to strip off muddy boots & waterproofs, and the bed was comfy. It was quite a home from home, in fact, and a lovely base for our fortnight's holiday. Many thanks to Will and Sue Snow, the current owners, for acommodating our requests re bedding. Sue also phoned us to check that everything was OK and that we were settled in, which was appreciated.

Fabulous!
Had a wonderful break at Cairn Shiel. Accommodation was even better than expected. The view from the lounge was superb and the visiting wildlife immense. Really well situated to travel around the Highlands, Torridon being 10/15mins away by car. Walk up Ben Eighe from the doorstep! We hope to return in the near future.

The view!
We had a great time at Cairn Shiel. The view from the living room window is immense! The cottage had everything we needed and more. We enjoyed feeding the birds and were not short of wildlife watching opportunities 'at home' when we got back from our daily walk/explore. The track up Beinn Eighe from the side of the cottage being particularly convenient! :-D The location just outside Kinlochewe village is perfect for local walks as well as heading both north and south along the coast for exploring. Thank you Sue and Will for having us.

Fantastic accommodation
We really enjoyed our stay at Cairn Shiel. The bungalow had plenty of room for us as a family of four and was well equipped. It was very peaceful with a wonderful mountain view from the living room. We loved seeing the pine martens each evening. Would love to visit again and would recommend to others. Thank you :-) !

If you are looking for wildlife on your doorstep, this is the place.to stay
At first appearance this is a very deceptive property. From the road it looks very ordinary, but once inside it is almost Tardis like, with three large, comfortable bedrooms and a large lounge/diner. Without doubt the star of the property is the huge lounge window which provides the most wonderful view to Beinn Eighe and the reserve.. The main reason for us choosing Cairn Shiel was the wildlife and we were not disappointed. Pine Martins visited the garden daily and would happily pose sitting on the garden table directly outside the window. We identified three different martins which we think were mother, father and one of last years young. On the Beinn Eighe reserve we saw, and photographed two dragonflies which are only found in this immediate area, Azure Hawker & Northern Emerald, and we also saw Golden Ringed dragonfly and White Faced Darters which are scarce. It probably goes without saying, but its worth repeating it, the scenery around the area is magnificent. We particularly liked the road through to Torridon and on towards Applecross. If you are into walking/hiking the area could be heaven for you. The Gorse Bush, an interesting looking cafe about half a mile away, is well worth a visit. We had Sunday lunch there, and I had probably the best pieces of beef that I have ever eaten. For a quick snack or coffee, the cafe at the petrol station is worth a visit. In summary, this was our first visit to this corner of Scotland, and in terms of accommodation, scenery and wildlife it provided everything that we had hoped for and more.

Great base to explore the Torridon area, with bonus Pine Martens
Wonderful last minute week away before Xmas. The owners were very helpful - I booked and flew up the same day. Well furnished house with good facilities. Superb view from lounge window over Torridon Hills, and the bonus of Pine Martens coming to visit each evening. Well positioned for bagging Munros, and exploring inland or out to the coast. I lucked out with the weather - sunny all week. I hope you do too.

Stunning views you never tire of!
A lovely property with stunning uninterrupted views that take some beating and you can never tire of. Whether you're sitting inside or out, it's a real delight. There are pinemartins that regularly come into the garden right by the house alongside a variety of birds that come and feed in front of you. Cairn Shiel is located in a stunning area and sits on it's own with good privacy, peace & quiet. The photos are true in that there aren't any other properties or surprises hidden just out of camera shot. It can be disappointing if you arrive to find things not as you'd been led to believe but Cairn Shiel does NOT disappoint. From the doorstep, there's excellent walking/cycling for all abilities and easy access to places of interest in the surrounding area. The property is spacious and bright with excellent facilities including efficient and effective heating making it feel warm/cosy, modern kitchen, comfy beds, good shower/hot water etc. It felt like a home from home, I didn't want to leave and am already planning to return. The owners are easily contactable if needed and are very friendly and happy to help. Thank you Sue & Will for renting out your property as it gives other people the chance to stay in such a beautiful place. Highly recommended.

Christmas break
Lovely warm and extremely clean. The communication between the owners regarding the property was excellent. It was a great base for exploring as the roads are close. Definitely would recommend. It is very close to the road but the back is onto a beautiful national park. Feeding the pine martens was a real nightly treat
